Short cuts

August 26th, 2007

Summertime spells fields of sunflowers in certain parts of France. These ones are just outside of Toulouse. And now, for a totally unrelated post…

Since seeing the movie Transformers, I’m convinced that our old beat-up Peugeot 205 is in fact an alien robot in disguise. Her name has evolved from plain “Lucy” to “Lucy Prime”. So she is Optimus Prime’s little sister and one day, she will save us.

Lately we’ve gotten into watching an American series called Heroes. You must have heard about it, it’s actually very good in a comic-book-set-in-real-life kind of way. It’s a little like X-men, but without the funky, weird haircuts and costumes. It’s set in our everyday world and life and centers around ordinary people who find out that they are in fact extra-ordinary - something to do with evolution and genetic coding. Together they must, of course, do no less than save the world! And we follow our Heroes on their journey.

Friday night, we went to see a wonderful movie: Caramel. If it comes out at a theatre near you, make sure to go and see it, if you can handle watching subtitled films, because the movie is set in Lebanon and is in fact in Arabic. I guess it’s in a similar vein to Volver and Chocolat, so if you liked those, you’ll love this. It was heart-warming… warm and smooth just like Caramel. Loved it. It’s interesting to note that the lead actress actually wrote and directed the film! But I didn’t know that when I was watching it.

This was a quick post to break the silence of the last few days. The new French school year starts tomorrow, so people have come back from their seaside holidays and as a result, since Thursday work has resumed for me and my life is once again ruled by deadlines. So, back to the grindstone!

Hi Tash, loved the sunflowers - they are my favourite flower by far.
Glad you liked Transformers, Oscar loves them! Tiffanie who is 15, Georgia is 7 and Oscar is 5 - have just discovered Dr Who. Now I haven’t watched Dr Who in over 20 years however we now sit down and have “family time” watching Dr Who every Saturday night. It then dictates the topic of conversation with Oscar for the following week!
Don’t work too hard, remember to take time to smell the flowers.

    Hi Tash,

I just had a weird experience when leaving a comment on your blog. I was almost finished and suddenly the comment field narrowed down to one character and then disappeared all together. I used your ‘Trackback this post’ facility to get out of it. Weird…….

Anyway I was saying in my last comment that the movies I’ve seen recently are the lately are Harry Potter.

    Hi Tash,

It just happened… again your comments field disappeared on me. This time I just submitted the comment as was. Any way the other movies were Die Hard 4 and No Reservations. I know a sweet thing like you would never watch a movie as violent as Die Hard 4 but I reckon that it’s the best Die Hard movie yet produced.

Anyway darling before this comments field disappears on me again I’ll say Cya….

    Hi April!

Thanks for stopping by, I’m glad you liked the photo. They are such happy flowers, aren’t they? Like geraniums and daisies.
To be honest, I don’t really remember Dr Who! I just remember something about a Tardis??

    xx

    Hi Unc,

Not sure about that comment problem, hopefully it was just a temporary glitsch! Let me know if it keeps happening and I’ll do a web search to find out if I can solve it.
Oh and I don’t mind a bit of action (movie… ha!) every once in a while :) Die Hard 4 could be good fun! I don’t think it’s out here yet though and we don’t always get the films in English. Remi and I hate watching dubbed movies!

Lotsa love right back atcha :)

    Hi Tash,

The impression I got with the comment field problem was that your comment field could only hold a certain number of characters and as the number was reached the width of the field narrowed until it totally disappeared.

    The problem is still there.

    Lots of love

    Hi Unc,

I’ve tested the comments function every which way possible, as administrator and as visitor. I never had a problem. There is no limit to the length of the comment you can post, but once you do reach a certain (sizeable) length, the system holds the comment for moderation as it suspects spam.
Unless someone else experiences the same problem as you, I’d have to deduce that the problem is at your end!

Silly me, I had forgotten the url to your site once again and thankfully you had left it on my blogger. I am just catching up on reading your entries, but I just wanted to agree with you on the show Heroes. Absolutely, love it! Watched all of last seasons and can’t wait for this season to start. Last years season will be on dvd pretty darn quick I believe. Another show I loved to watch is Lost. Excellent.

Thats all for now. Take Care :)

    Hey Bons!

Long time no see, thanks for dropping by, your maciness :)
Haven’t gotten around to Lost yet, but people are crazy about it here too.

Hi Tash, the Tardis - yep, you got it right! My kids love the crazy, out there type characters. I have just introduced them to the world of Catweazle. Probably screened around the same years as Dr Who. About a mad looking, not very successful wizard from the year 1066 that accidently magics himself to 1968!!

Hope all is well with you, love april
PS Tiffanie finds out next week if she is successful with her AFS scholarship to France!

    Hi Tash,

My doctor tells me that there is no problem with my end :-) mind you there are lots of problems in other areas. I got your invite (and Remi’s) to become a friend at Facebook. I have to alert you to the fact that I know nothing about Facebook and if I started to spend time on Facebook I would probably get into more trouble than I already get into for spending so much time on the computer.

    Lots of LOVE

April, just wanted to say that I have my fingers, toes and eyes crossed for Tiffie! It would be a great experience for her at this age. I really hope she gets accepted.
